This 1/48 scale plastic model kit represents the Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien, a unique Japanese Army fighter distinguished by its liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine and refined aerodynamic profile. Officially adopted in 1943, the Ki-61-Id featured an elongated nose to accommodate 20mm nose-mounted cannons, complemented by 12.7mm wing guns, making it the most produced Hien variant with 1,360 units. Its superior high-altitude performance made it a key interceptor of U.S. B-29 bombers defending the Japanese home islands. Units such as the 244th Air Group, led by Captain Teruhiko Kobayashi, famously flew the Hien. The model captures its slender fuselage and extended nose, complete with a fully detailed Ha-40 engine, cockpit interior with ammo cases and oil tank, and a highly accurate radiator assembly.
