The 508 cm “Coloniale” was a versatile lightweight staff car introduced by Italy in the mid‑1930s and pressed into service across multiple fronts in WWII. Powered by a 32 hp engine mated to a simple but effective suspension, it could carry four personnel at speeds up to 90 km/h over rough terrain. Initially used by the Italian Army for officer transport and reconnaissance—particularly in North Africa—the Coloniale was widely commandeered and occasionally modified by German forces after Italy’s 1943 armistice, earning a reputation for reliability and agility in desert and Mediterranean operations. Tamiya’s 1/35 scale plastic assembly kit faithfully captures the Coloniale’s functional lines and large‑diameter tires, with a finely detailed engine block that may be displayed under an open or closed hood and an optional canvas roof that can be posed raised or folded back. The model’s interior is rendered with accurate seating, dashboard and floorboard detail, while accessories such as the Notek blackout lamp allow you to build either Italian or German‑style machines. Two Italian soldier figures and one German driver figure are included, along with decal sheets offering two Italian Army and two Wehrmacht marking options complete with national insignia.
