The IAI Nesher was Israel Aircraft Industries’ locally produced derivative of the Dassault Mirage 5, introduced into Israeli Air Force service in 1971. Built using tooling and data acquired under the Mirage 5 programme, the Nesher retained the Mirage’s delta‑wing layout and single SNECMA Atar 09C turbojet, delivering Mach 2 performance and superb high‑altitude interception capability. It saw its combat debut during the Yom Kippur War of 1973, where Nesher squadrons proved highly effective in both air‑superiority and ground‑attack roles. Later exported to Argentina, where it was designated Dagger, the Nesher remained in front‑line service until replaced by the IAI Kfir.
