The TTA tanker is one of the most common types of tanker wagons seen on British railways. While not the first or last of its kind, its standardized design and simplicity led to thousands being built during the 1960s and 70s.

Primarily used for transporting petrochemical products, TTA tankers were frequently seen in heavy block trains, hauled by some of the most notable diesel freight engines of British Railways. Withdrawals began in the early 2000s, as larger bogie tank engines took over their roles, resulting in most examples being scrapped, with only a few preserved for posterity.

The Hornby TTA tanker is newly tooled for 2023, marking the first retooling since 1973. Featuring a remarkable level of detail for a wagon often considered plain, this model is essential for any late twentieth-century modeller.
