Depicted in its mid-1960s guise wearing BR Blue with small yellow panels, Bachmann’s all-new OO gauge model of Class 25/3 D7660 showcases the final development of the Class 25 family, incorporating refined detailing and tooling to accurately represent the late body style. Introduced from 1961 as part of the Modernisation Plan, 325 Class 25s were built across BR’s Derby, Crewe, and Darlington works, as well as by Beyer Peacock, serving across all but the Southern Region in a wide range of freight, parcels, and secondary passenger roles. D7660, a Derby-built Class 25/3, features cantrail grilles, bodyside boiler vent grille, plated water filler door, late-style sandboxes, and a 510-gallon fuel tank, with the model further enhanced by glazed headcode boxes (displaying 5M82 and 7D52 blinds), original exhaust and battery boxes, and electronic speedo equipment. Beneath the diecast chassis, a five-pole twin-shaft motor drives all axles via metal gearboxes and bearing-fitted axles, while a Plux22 decoder socket and factory-fitted speaker offer a sound-ready setup. Sprung buffers, etched radiator grilles, and separate handrails elevate the visual fidelity, complemented by directional lighting, illuminated headcodes, and DCC-switchable cab and engine room lights. Measuring 202mm, this Era 6 model is compatible with second radius curves and is available in standard, SOUND FITTED, and SOUND FITTED DELUXE versions—the latter including motorised radiator fan and tinted windscreen glazing.
