Dapol Class 59 002 Foster Yeoman Silver [N Gauge]
Item No: 2D-005-000

Marking a transformative moment in UK rail freight, the Class 59 was the first US-built, privately-owned diesel locomotive to operate regularly on British metals. Commissioned by Foster Yeoman following disappointing results from the BR Class 56, the EMD-built Class 59/0s arrived in 1986 and immediately proved their worth, with No. 59002 among the first four to enter service. Their reliability and haulage capabilities—one setting a record of 4,639 tonnes—led to further orders from ARC (Class 59/1) and National Power (59/2). These pioneering locomotives laid the groundwork for the Class 66, EMD’s follow-up design that would dominate freight operations in the UK and across Europe. Today, the remaining Class 59s are operated by Mendip Rail and DB Schenker, with 59003 working under GBRf after its return from Germany. This Dapol model of 59002 in its iconic Foster Yeoman silver finish is part of Dapol’s Next Generation Diesel line, featuring a re-engineered chassis and all-wheel drive powered by a 5-pole iron-core motor for exceptional low-speed performance and pulling power. The model includes a Next-18 decoder socket (DCC sound-ready), directional lighting with day/night mode, override switches for analogue use, and close coupling via self-centring NEM pockets. Additional highlights include RP25 wheels, fine body detailing, etched nameplates, and a clip-fit body shell for easy decoder installation. Factory-fitted DCC versions include Dapol’s Imperium decoder, while sound-fitted editions feature a Zimo decoder with authentic audio. Era 9.
